The War Was of God (I Chronicles 3-5)

22 For many fell, because the war was of God. And they lived in their place until the exile. I Chronicles 5:22

The blessings of the Lord are more than we can both count and comprehend. I believe we can see this clearly as we read the genealogies placed before us that show up both the power of God in the coming of the Messiah and the battles of God intended for the blessings of God’s people.

Along the way of our reading we read names of people who fought battles for God’s sake. We see Jabez (4:8-10) who fought battles on his knees asking God to help him increase his territory for the sake of fulfilling God’s plan for His people.

It was the same way for the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh. These tribes cried out to God in the battles that God placed before them. Yes, it was God who intended the battles to be for them and for our lives as well.

Those tribes depended on the Lord Himself to win the battles the Lord placed before them. Brothers and sisters, this is what God intends for you and I to do as well when He places battles before us. I know this may see hard to grasp. We ask, God why this battle and why now Lord.

Here are four reasons why your battles are of the Lord:

  1. In battles we recognize our inability.
  2. In battles we are reconnected to humility.
  3. In battles we are reunited with faith.
  4. In battles we are receivers of great blessings.

Those tribes and those people who came to God in humility and faith received great blessings in victory, but the greatest blessing was in coming to know God as He really is.

Yes, the Psalmist understood this as he wrote, “Who is the king of glory? The Lord, strong, and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.” Psalm 24:8.

Brothers and sisters accept your battles because God is over and in the battle. Brothers and sisters align yourself with God in the battle for He is mighty in battle!!!
