I want to believe? (John 20-21)

29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. John 20:29

As this couple sat in front of their 60-inch flat screen tv, it was with sadness that they looked at each other and almost at the same time commented, “I don’t know what to believe.” I wonder, do you find yourself struggling to figure out what is true and what is not true?

In John 20 the disciples were struggling with what to believe. Jesus had died and now the reports were coming in that He had risen from the dead. It was first the women who had been at the tomb who came. Peter and John had never known them to lie, so they went and found the tomb empty. The Bible says, “John believed,” 20:8. But the other disciples were still in doubt.

It was Mary of Magdale who also was struggling to believe (20:11-19). She was so broken by Jesus death that she did not at first recognize Him. But when she did, she went to the disciples with amazing news: “I have seen the Lord.”

Brothers and sisters, even in Jesus day, people were struggling to figure out what was true and what was not true. In our day, we wonder does our media ever tell the entire truth. In this election year we wonder, does either presidential candidate tell the entire truth? We have breakfast with someone and we wonder, are they telling the entire truth. We attend church or we watch it online and we wonder, is this the truth.

Every day you and I have to decide what we believe. Maybe you find yourself in a situation where you really don’t know what is true and what is not true. Here is one thing I know I can believe every moment of every day: I can believe in His Word.

Notice how Jesus overcame the disciples doubts: He revealed Himself to them. He came into the room where they were meeting and He said: “Peace be with you.”

Oh my friends, Jesus was the peace in the room that led them to have peace outside the room. I want you to truly get this: You can trust the prince of peace.

Brothers and sisters, God’s Word is truth. John 17:17 “Your Word is truth.”

Brothers and sisters, God’s Word always passes the test. Matt. 7:24-26. It stands the test.

Brothers and sisters, God’s Word transforms our ways of thinking, acting, and living, Rom. 12:1-2.

Brothers and sisters, God’s Word gives us discernment and wisdom, II Timothy 3:16.

In every room where Jesus entered, peace and perspective came to those who believed!!! Today, our enemy spreads fake news into our minds and hearts (I Cor. 11:3). His goal is to take you away from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

2000 years ago, Jesus peace was enough for the church. Today, I write to you, His peace is enough for us. “Trust in the Lord forever, because in the Lord, the Lord Himself, is an everlasting rock,” Isaiah 26:4

Oh how I challenge you to be in His Word every day-Start the Day with the Word. Stay in the Word through-out the day by hiding it in your heart where the Devil cannot take it away. Walk in faith in the Word knowing He keeps His promises!!!
