BE CAREFUL (Joshua 1-2)

Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success[a] wherever you go. Joshua 1:7

It happens almost every time I leave for work.  Often this one thing happens as the very last think before I close the door and walk to my vehicle.  Yes, each day, Sherry says, “be careful.”  I know John and I sometimes joke about it, but I have grown to love hearing Sherry say those words, “be careful.”

I have come to understand that Sherry is not saying I am absentminded or wreckless with my actions.  This is her loving reminder to me, how important I am to her.  She wants me to use all my abilities to get home in the evening.

In an even more loving way, God was saying,  “Joshua, be careful.”

The nation was within three days of entering the battle for the Promised Land.  God had given them everything they needed to accomplish the victory.  But they needed to be careful.  How were they to be careful?

  • They were to be careful with their hearts.  They were to obey the commandments of God.
  • They were to be careful with their minds.  Meditation was to be a priority for these people.
  • They were to be careful with their souls.  Day by day they were to carry out God’s commands.

Oh how timely this is for the Church.  When our hearts, minds, and souls are being careful before God, we will have good success wherever we go.

Israel, in her day, needed to be strong in heart and mind. Israel needed to be courageous in soul if they were to accomplish all God had placed before them.  In Joshua one we read the example of two men who were careful (Be sure you go back and read Joshua two).

This very hour, you and I are called to be careful.  You see, I really do not have the time to be worried about the CV-19 virus because my mind and heart are focused on carrying out God’s commands.  I don’t find myself being afraid of everyone I meet because I am locked into focusing on doing the very things God has tasked me to do.

I am praying for you ever hour!!!

I sang an old hymn this morning,  It says, “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.”

I love each of you!!!
