Whats on Your Face (Exodus 34-35)

29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God, Exodus 34:29

It must have been exciting times as God’s people together began the process of building the Tabernacle.  It was obvious that the people’s hearts and hands were in this good work.  Moses writes, their hearts were generous (35:5) and there hands were willing (35:10).

I believe you could see joy on their face, they were there in the desert to give and serve (35:21).  Question:  “what will you give your heart and hands to this day?”

Let me totally be revealed, this was not the norm for these people.  Moses said, “these are a stiff-necked people.” Ex. 34:9.  But after this the people would lose their heart for God and then they would close their hands to God.  What would result would be 40 years of nothing.  But God wanted to do more.

11 “Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 12 Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst. 13 You shall tear down their altars and break their pillars and cut down their Asherim 14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), 15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice, 16 and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods. Exodus 34:11-16

This day, I ask you, what’s on your face?  Are you willing to open your heart to God and your hand to God to go and do everything He is calling you to do?

Here is what I know about God and His Face to Face call on our lives.

  • God only meets with those who are serious about His call on their lives.
  • God has an enemy who is your enemy when you want to walk before God.
  • God has a Spirit (His Holy Spirit) that He will release into your life if you surrender your heart and hand to His calling on your life.
  • God has a future on the other side of obedience that is amazing.  We would call it a miracle.

This morning I listened to a message that has ripped me a part. One line from the message did it to me.  Here is that one line:  “Only God knows what is on the other side of obedience.”

On that day in history Israel’s face shone brightly because their hearts and hands belonged to God.  But their face changed because their heart changed.  You and I have been called to a daily heart change with God!!! May you and I live in obedience on this side of the miracle.
