Lack of Experience (Exodus 14)

13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” Exodus 14:13-14

Have you ever been turned down for a job because of a lack of experience?  Many of us have and when it happens one of two things usually happen.  Either we become bitter (and say what is the use) or we become better (because we go and get the experience).

When Israel came to the Red Sea, she was lacking in experience with God and faith.  It had been Moses who had led the people during the fight with Pharaoh and his gods.  It was Moses who was gaining experience.

As the people turned and saw the Egyptians coming, it was a lack of experience that led to their responses.  Notice the words of the man of experience speaking up.  Here is what he said:

  • Fear not-Moses had experience with the “Great I Am,” Ex. 3:14.
  • Stand firm-Moses knew God had their backs.  10 plagues proved this.
  • See the salvation of the Lord-God was their deliverer.  He was and is our Passover Lamb.

Question:  What experience do you and I have with God?

All Israel had to do was in silence listen and obey the voice of God.  God would part the waters, God would make the pathway dry, and God would destroy their enemies.  Their only task was to walk by faith.

for we walk by faith, not by sight. II Corinthians 5:7

Brothers and sisters, God is calling you to gain experience in all you are facing this day and in tomorrow!!!

Here was my prayer for Sherry and I this morning:

“Father, we want to grow in faith so that we might experience more and more of who you are.  Father, we want to share with others what we are experiencing with You.  Father, we want to live out our faith before a watching world. Father may people say, that family has experience with God!!!
