Celebrating the “No Longer’s” (Revelation 22)

22 Then the angel[a] showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life[b] with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:1-5

Brothers and sisters, I could not help it, I had to put all five verses in the blog today.  The above verses offer us the greatest of encouragement concerning the things of this world which will not longer be when Jesus takes us to heaven.

Think about this for a moment.  Imagine being able to look at something that bothers you and to be able to say, “You will no longer be with me in heaven.”

Look the list below of the no longer’s that will be:

  • There will no longer be death.  The River of Life runs constantly from the throne of God.
  • There will no longer be any hurt. All nations will be healed.
  • There will no longer be any darkness referring to sin.

Think about the many things that fall in this category: Animals will no longer have a killing instinct.  Nature will cease bearing thorns. The sun will no longer burn or destroy.  Earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes will no longer be.  Physical decay will be no more.  All the evil of humanity will end.  Cancer and disease will be no more.

  • There will be no longer a broken relationship with God. He will walk with us, we will see Him forevermore.
  • There will no longer be a need for the Lord’s Supper.  He will always be with us to worship.  Every moment with Him will be our reminder.  The gospel will have been completed with Jesus Second-Coming.

Brothers and sisters, these truths lead me to three life changes:

  1. I now live with hope of what is coming and what will be no more.
  2. I now live with intentionality knowing Jesus could return today.
  3. I now live with urgency knowing that my fellow human beings have only this moment to come to Jesus!!!
