Who did you tell? (Psalm 145)

One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts. Psalm 145:4

The news was to be a secret. No one except the people involved were to know what was about to be revealed to the public.  However, the news leaked and the important moment of revealing was diminished because someone told before hand.

The above illustration is something that all of us have experienced in relationships and in the work place.  Someone said, “Somethings are to be kept silent.”  I would agree wholeheartedly.

However, there are some things that are not to be kept secret.  You ask, “give me an example?”  My answer, The revelation of God!  God intends for His people to declare who He is and what He does to the entire world.  This is the Psalmist direction in Psalm 145.

In this Psalm we are lead on a glorious mission of discovery.  R.C. Sproul comments: “This is a spiritual fireworks display,” Cited from The Reformation Study Bible.”

The author vows to praise the Lord each and every day, Vs: 2.  We read of the impossibility of every running out of things to praise Him for, Vs: 3.  God’s desire is for us to reach the next generation with the truth of who God is.

We ask, how do we accomplish this task?  Vs: 5-7

  • We have to daily meditate and marinate on God’s Word.
  • We have to daily share as a megaphone what we are discovering.

The Psalmist gives us an example of how this is to happen in Vs: 8-21.  I encourage you to take time and read slowly through verses eight through twenty-one.  I have placed the verses in two categories and I have given each verse to one or the other.

  1.  We see the character of God in Vs: 8-9, 13, 17.
  2. We see the mighty deeds of God in Vs: 9-12, 14-16, 18-20.

Now that you have read these verses, spend your day in mediation and marination concerning who He is and what He does.  Also spend your day looking for people to share with what you are discovering and experiencing.

Here is an awesome song to sing as you go along the day:

How Great Is Our God
The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
Name above all names
Worthy of our praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
