A solid and sure foundation (Hebrews 6; 10:26-29)

 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,  Hebrews 6:19

Have you asked, “Is so and so really a Christ-follower?”  Have you ever wondered if you are a genuine Christ follower?

To be boldly transparent, there are days when most believers will question their genuine salvation.  When do those days come?  Usually when you are extremely weary in life or you have extremely blew it in your faith.

The writer of Hebrews writes to encourage believers who from time to time find themselves in this place.  Maybe you are in this place today.  If so, find encouragement from this fact:  “Salvation is a gift from God that is guaranteed by the God who guards our faith with the assurance that it will be given to you at the end.”  This is the solid and sure foundation of Hebrews 6:19.

However, there is a warning here.  There are some believers who are not really believers, 6:4-9.  Such people are actually false believers.  Yes these people are enlightened, they have tasted, they have shared and they have participated in faith.  But only as observers not as people who have obeyed the gospel.

They know about Jesus (enlightened) but do not know Jesus.  They have sampled (tasted) the faith but never have they surrendered to the faith.  They have shared in our faith (in the crowds) but never sold-out to faith.  They have felt the power of the Word but never have they fell in love with the person of the Word.

Hebrews 10:26-29 teaches that they will experience the fires of hell.  However, this will never be with us. We have a sure and steadfast hope in Jesus Christ.

Today, I do not wonder if I am saved, even if I blow life terribly.  I know my life is secure in Him.  But I still each day strive to mature and I strive to renounce sin and rejoice in His righteousness.  May these words bring assurance to your life.

Ms. Crosby said it better than I:

  1. Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
    Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
    His child and forever I am.

    • Refrain:
      Redeemed, redeemed,
      Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
      Redeemed, redeemed,
      His child and forever I am.
  2. Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,
    No language my rapture can tell;
    I know that the light of His presence
    With me doth continually dwell.
  3. I think of my blessed Redeemer,
    I think of Him all the day long:
    I sing, for I cannot be silent;
    His love is the theme of my song.
  4. I know I shall see in His beauty
    The King in whose law I delight;
    Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
    And giveth me songs in the night.
  5. I know there’s a crown that is waiting
    In yonder bright mansion for me,
    And soon, with the spirits made perfect,
    At home with the Lord I shall be.
