Daniels burden (Daniel 10-12)

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris) Daniel 10:2-4

Question:  “What seems to be bothering you?”  Answer, “______________”

The above scenario is one that plaques many people in a days time.  I purposely left the answer blank so you could fill it in with what is on your heart and mind today.

If we were to be able to ask the Prophet Daniel this question, how would he fill in the blank?

Thankfully we have God’s written answer to this question:

  • Daniel was burdened for the position his name was in, Daniel 8-9.
  • Daniel was burdened to the point of exhaustion because of what he saw in the world’s future, Daniel 11-12:4.
  • Daniel pleaded with the Lord for the answer for what would be the outcome, Daniel 12:3-13.

Brothers and sisters, “What did you place in the blank that would describe what you were burdened about?”

I almost feel ashamed when I place things on my list that really have no eternal significance.  This day I was reminded to do the following so I could focus on the correct burden:

  1. Spend more time in reading and prayer so that I can have God’s heart on each matter of life.
  2. Spend more time meditating on what God has said.
  3. Spend more time focusing my energies seeking God’s vision in making impact in my world.
  4. Spend more time resting in the love God has for me.

Daniel 12:2-3 gives me the greatest of hope

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above;[a] and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

 Matthew 25:46
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
