Who Can Do This? (Isaiah 49-53)

Kings shall be your foster fathers,
and their queens your nursing mothers.
With their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you,
and lick the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
those who wait for me shall not be put to shame.” Isaiah 49:23

Yesterday morning I had the honor of speaking to a group of pastors in Malawi Africa by the means of Face Time.  We meet about 5 AM Eastern Standard Time, which was 11 AM in Malawi.

As I got close to the time to share, I was awakened from my sleep about 3 AM.  I found myself asking the Lord, “What can I say that will help these brothers as they seek to lead their congregations through the difficult days of drought, hunger, and fear?”  The Lord’s answer was so quick and so sweet.  He said, “Just point them to me. I can do this.”

I really think this is what Isaiah was saying in each chapter as he was being led to write the book of Isaiah. In the chapters before us, Isaiah is predicting a time when Israel will be restored, have rest from her enemies, and will enjoy the peace of the Lord.

The question that naturally comes is this:  “Who can do these things?”  Answer, “Jesus.”  Notice just a few things Isaiah points out about Jesus:

  • He is the Living Word, 49:1-3 (John 1:1).
  •  He is the Light of the world, 49:6-7 (John 8:12; Acts 13:47)
  • He was rejected by men, 50:9-11 (I Peter 2:4-7)
  • He will return to rule and reign forever, 51:6 (Revelation 19:6-16)
  • He is the one who brings good news, 52: 7-8 (Romans 10:15)
  • He is the one who is the Savior of all men, 53:1-13 (Colossians 2:14)

It was Jesus who did all of these things so that you and I could be free.  Brothers and sisters, these things should be so precious to us.  They come at a great price.

I challenge you to read again Isaiah 53 with a heart to praise the one who did these things for you.  I challenge you to carry this good news to people of every nation, tribe, and tongue.

This is God’s call on our lives!!!  And, yes we can do it, in Jesus power!!!

There are so many around us who are hurting, spiritually hungry, and desperate for good news.  We can do it!!!
