Forever (Psalm 119:89-176)

“Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.”  Psalm 119:89

Just when I began to like it, they took it off the market.  This is often how it goes with products that we like to use.  It seems that advertising markets believe that nothing will keep on selling as it is.  So there is always either, a new product, or a new and improved product.  Fact:  “Some things are good just as they are.”

Consider the Psalmist product in Psalm 119.  The product is God’s Word.

The Psalmist both praises and points us to the eternal (forever) Word of God.

  • The Word of God is our roadmap, Vs: 105.
  • The Word of God is our comfort, Vs: 52.
  • The Word of God is our hope, Vs: 81.
  • The Word of God makes us wiser than our enemies, Vs: 98.
  • The Word of God gives us understanding in every circumstance, Vs: 104.
  • The Word of God is our hiding place and shield, Vs: 114.

The above are just a sampling of the forever value of God’s Word.  As the Psalmist closes the chapter with, for me, the most awesome forever value of the Word:

“I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.”  Psalm 119:176

The truth is, even though the Psalmist had the Word of God, he still at times found himself slipping in his walk with God.  In those moments he remembers that the Word of God is living.  Jesus Christ is the living Word of God.  He here is described as our Great Shepherd.  He is the one who comes to us when we walk astray.  I am so thankful that the living Word is my shepherd, John 10.
