Difficult but rewarding days (II Samuel 19-21)

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over the, that those who love your name may exult in you.  For you bless the righteous, O Lord, you cover him with favor as with a shield.”  Psalm 5:11-12

Yesterday I read the story of former South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore who story can be accessed in the link below.  His story is of both rise and fall due to great strength and then great injury.

Marcus Lattimore: ‘I’m thankful for those knee injuries’

What blessed me the most was in reading His commentary of it all, “I’m thankful for those knee injuries.”  It was through them that this nominal believer became an on fire Christ follower.

When we look at David’s story in our readings for today, we see a king who has difficult days:

  • David mourns the death of his son to the point that he almost destroy’s the victory of his people, 19:1-15.
  • David shows grace to both his enemies as well as to those who had been faithful to him, 19:16-43.
  • David faces a rebellion from Sheba, 20:1-23.
  • David goes through three years of famine, 21:1-2.
  • David avenges the Gibeonites, 21:3-26.

Through it all David has discovered the rewarding part of difficult days.  He has come to know God in ways that were otherwise impossible to experience.  This day I challenge you to consider the God who loves you, Romans 8:31-38!!!

I also challenge you to write down your story of what God has done in your life.  I also challenge you to begin to share your story with others for the purpose of the glory of God.  God desires for your reward to be simply, “rejoice in the Lord who is always your refuge.”  Better days are ahead!!!  II Thessalonians 2:7-10.
