A New Beginning (Genesis 1-3)

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1

Welcome to 2016!  It is my prayer that you have a new beginning with God. Here at FBC of Jackson we are experiencing a new beginning in reading through God’s Word with a Chronological study plan.  You can download the plan under the resource tab at our ministry site.

Todays reading is Genesis 1-3.  I want to point you to these three chapters under two headings:

  • Chapters one and two challenge us to believe the following:
  1.  We are to believe in an Uncreated creator, 1:1-2

Here we see God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirt all participating as the uncreated creator who created everything.

2. We are to believe in an unimaginable creation, 1:3-26

We see six days of creation in which the following takes place:

  • God speaks and creation takes form.
  • Creation is perfect and without evil.
  • Man is created with dominion over everything on the earth.

3.  We are to believe in an inescapable connection, 2:1-25

  • Humanity was to rest and rejoice in the God of creation, 2:1-4
  • Man was to care for all the creation of God, 2:5-25
  • Humanity was called to obey the creator, 2:5-25
  • Man was given a partner to fulfill the creators plan, 2:5-25

Application:  These two chapters give us reason to say, “God is the author of everything that is good.”  James 1:16-17

  • Chapter thee challenges us to believe the following:
  1.  Satan entered a perfect world with the goal of overthrowing the Kingdom of God

He was recruiting workers, worshippers, and warriors to do his bidding.

2.  Humanity chose to rebel against God in total disregard for what God had said.

Here is the path:  Satan lies, Eve listens, Adam and Eve chose to be led by Satan.  This is called the fall of mankind.  God pursues man and pronounces judgment on the man.  This is called the curse of mankind.  God, however, in great grace, predicts the coming of the second Adam (Jesus Christ) who will purchase our forgiveness before God.

Application:  This chapter reveals where all blame belongs for the evil in our world.  It lies at the feet of humanity.  I John 2:15-17; James 1:13-15

Our first beginning was derailed by Satan.  Our new beginning was purchased by our Savior.  I chose, in 2016 to walk in a new way, II Corinthians 5:17.  I pray you will walk with me!!!
