Doing His will (Hebrews 13; Luke 2; Amos 8)

“Equipping you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever,” Hebrews 13:21

Brothers and sisters, “you and I serve an amazing God.”  However, there are often things that come into our path that cloud this truth.  Here is an example of this, “Our days can become so crazy busy that we fail to even see his daily miracles or to carry out his daily will.”

When talking with people I occasionally hear the following, “doing his will is a hard task.”

Question, “What does the Bible say?”

The Bible teaches us two things in response:

  1.  God has equipped us so that we can be successful in carrying out His will.

Here in Hebrews 13 the writer gives us a variety of tasks that are part of God’s daily will for our lives.  In particular there are two that summarize the tasks:  We are to love God, Vs: 15 and we are to love others, Vs: 16.

Writing to the church, Peter clearly says, “God has given us everything we need to live the Christian life.” II Peter 1:3-4.

2.  God is equipping us so that we can be successful in carrying out His will.

As you read Hebrews 13 it is clear, God is daily equipping us!!!  The question that comes to my mind is this, “Are we taking full advantage of the resources he has given?”

Here are six resources we have bee given: “Instructions in his Word, Vs: 1-4; His fellowship along the path, Vs: 5-6; Growth in knowledge of who He is, Vs: 7-13; Daily expectation of His return, Vs: 14; Leaders to guide us on the path, Vs: 17; and the honor of prayer, Vs: 18.

Brothers and sisters, the only reason it is hard to do the will of God is because of our weaknesses in not being disciplined to do His will.

This was my prayer this morning: “Father, thank you for giving us everything for this Christian life.  Help us to be disciplined in order that I and all who follow you might take full advantage of all you have given us.”

    Bro. Keith,

You and I serve an amazing God!

I’m working on completing a lesson out of the fourth chapter of Acts which I have titled ‘The 5 W’s of the Early Church’ and will be talking about the 5th “W” (The Wealth of God is Distributed; vs 32-37). The lesson centers on Material Wealth (Physical Resources) and Spiritual Wealth (Personal Growth). I had been looking for the perfect passages in support of the Spiritual Growth piece and BAM!, God provides your blog this morning (point #2 below).

Thank you for your continued work in this daily blog. I look forward to reading it every day while at work.

    Bro. Dave

    The 5 “W” of Acts 4 are:
The Word of God is Preached (vs 1-4)
The Witness of God is Perfect (vs 5-12)
The Work of God is Evidenced (vs 13-22)
The Worship of God is Demonstrated (vs 23-31)
The Wealth of God is Distributed (vs 32-37)
