Getting to know Him (I Kings 3, Ephesians 1)

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in your knowledge of Him,” Ephesians 1:17

“And all Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God, was in him to do justice,” I Kings 3:28

Admittedly, one of the toughest things to do in relationship building is in the sacrifices made in order for you to get to know someone.  Consider the sacrifices: 1.  There is the time involved in discovering who the person is.  2.  There is the fear of the unknown, which could be uncomfortable things in the life of the person whom you are seeking to build a relationship.  3.  This could ultimately lead to a total loss of relationship or it could lead to a life long relationship.

Consider Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:17.  Paul’s prayer is for not only the believers in Ephesus, but for all believers. Paul prays one simply prayer, “Lord open their spiritual eyes so they can get to know you.”

Brothers and sisters, this has great implications in our lives.  Paul prays for the ability for each believer to know God.  Question, “How does this work in our lives?”  Answer, “God opens our spiritual eyes each day as we read His word.”  Follow the path of Ephesians one as an example:

1.  We begin to understand the “hope of our calling,” Vs: 1-7

2.  We begin to understand the “immeasurable greatness of His power,” Vs: 8-13

3.  We cannot but praise His name for, “The glory of presence,” Vs: 14-21

Each day I am humbled as I read His word.  The more I read, the more I see His value in my life.  Consider I Kings 3 where Solomon is given spiritual understanding about God.  Check out I Kings 3:7-9.

Think it through:

Solomon understands his insignificance and his inability.  By himself Solomon has little hope of success.  However, God’s wisdom changes everything.  As we know Him and as we follow Him in humility (We see Him for who He is)

Try it out:

Spend time in a chapter of the Bible.  Ask God to open your eyes and to fill you with spiritual wisdom.  By the time you are finished, you will known Him more!!!
