Our One Hope (Deuteronomy 18; Psalm 105)

“Remember the wondrous works that He has done, his miracles, and judgments he uttered,”  Psalm 105:5

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers-it is to him you shall listen,” Deuteronomy 18:15

Recently I read a quote from a politically active person.  Here was their quote, “Never would I have thought there would be a president who would in comparison cause Richard Nixon to look like a saint.”  Now before you think I am trying to be politically motivated, here my point, “No one person or a group of people can fix the problems we have.” The problem we have is”sin.”  The solution is for an outside source to come and fix our problem.

Question, “Who could this outside source be?”  All the people I know have the same problem as I do.  We are all sinners.  So it stands to reason, the solution is outside of us.  Our one hope must come from somewhere else.

This is exactly what Moses is talking about in Deuteronomy 18:15-22.  Moses is predicting the day when our One true Hope will come.  This one hope is Jesus Christ.  The gospel of John 1:21, 25, 45 teaches us that this one true hope has come.  You and I can now live in hope because of Jesus.

Today, maybe someone has let you down, confused you, or turned on you.  Allow me to turn your attention away from them to the one who true is our hope.  In Psalm 105 we are reminded of his great work in the life of Israel.  Today, we see his work in our lives.

Today, we celebrate the fact, “In Jesus we have hope.” Allow the writing of the Psalmist to sink deep into your heart, “So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing…”

Today, we celebrate the fact, “Jesus is coming again.”  “Every eye will see him, even those who have pierced him,” Rev. 1:7.  When He comes our hope will become reality.  Praise be  unto His name.
