A Reason To Be Glad (Leviticus 26: Psalm 33)

“If you walk in my statues and observe my commandments and do them.”  Lev. 26:1

“For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.”  Psalm 33:1

Question: “Do you and I have a reason to be glad today?”  The churchy answer would be yes, “We have Jesus so we can be glad.”  This is a great answer, but how personally true is this for your life and for my life?

This mornings More For Christ readings speak directly to the issue of gladness in our lives as followers of Christ.

In Leviticus 26 we discover the greatness of our God in the following way, “He has broken the bars of our yoke and made us walk erect.”  What an awesome God who has brought us from darkness to light.

In Psalm 33 we discover the greatness of our God in the following ways:

1.  As we focus on his word we discover what we have in Christ

2.  As we focus on his works we discover how much he has done for us in Christ.

3.  As we focus on his wisdom we discover the greatness of who He is.

In both these passages we find sufficient reason to praise our great God.  We should be glad that in good times and in bad times we have a reason to be glad because our great and awesome God will see us through.

Our thoughts for this day should be to walk in obedience to this great God.  The fact is, the only reason we would not be glad is if we are in rebellion against God.  For if we are in rebellion (Lev. 26:11-39) we face the discipline and judgment of God.

Oh how I want to be glad every day.  I leave you with the words of a wonderful praise chorus:

“He has made me glad, He has made me glad.  I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in him.  This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in him!!!
