The Songs of the Blessed (Genesis 48; Luke 1:39-80)

“By you Israel will pronounce blessings, saying, ‘God make you as Ephraim and Manasseh.'”  Genesis 49:29

“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”  Luke 1:46

Recently I was trying to watch TV in our bedroom.  However it was virtually impossible because of the noise coming from our bathroom.  Our youngest son, commonly known as King John, was taking a shower. As he showered he was singing to the top of his voice.  Finally it ended and a few minutes later, he burst through the door and asked, “Dad, did you like my singing?”

Question, “What have you been singing lately?”  In both Genesis 48 and Luke 1 we find examples of the songs of the blessed.  Jacob was blessed to have generations to follow him.

In Luke’s account we find several songs of blessing:

1. Elizabeth song, Vs: 39-45

2.  Mary’s song, Vs: 45-56

3.  Zechariah’s son, Vs: 67-80

I want to encourage you to see the beauty of the blessings we receive because of our understanding about these songs.  I also want to encourage you to consider the blessings God has given you.

When John asked, “Dad, how did you like my singing?”  I had to be honest and say, “I loved it,” because of the one who was singing.  In the same way the song in my heart today is one of blessing because of the one I am singing about.

Take some time to write down what He is doing in your life and who He is in your life.  To your surprise you will have a song of praise.  Now that you have it, share it with others.
