Are You Concerned?

The following headline caused great concern for me this morning, ” One million homes repossessed in 2010.” This article on states, “The numbers are to peak this year, with the numbers of repossessions being the highest ever this year.  As of today over five million homes are at-least two months behind in their mortgage.”

As I read this, great concern arose in my heart for the people in our nation.  What is God’s call upon our lives at this crucial juncture of our history? I truly know the answer to this question is found in God’s word.

As I opened my bible to Ezekiel 35-37, I was face to face with the answer. In chapter 35  we see God’s prophecy against Mount Sier.  In chapter 36 we read about God’s prophecy of restoring the nation of Israel.

In this we see the mercy, grace, and love of God.  But we also see something else, “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name,” 36:22. One verse later we read, “And the nations will know that I am the Lord.”

The answer to the problem in America is a return to Holiness on the part of God’s people.  When we live holy lives the name of God is lifted up.  People are able to see His holiness in our lives.  Lost people are cut to the heart because of their sin.  Lost people are broken over the love of Christ.  Lost people respond to the light that is shining forth from people who are Holy.

Question, “Are you concerned?”  I am very concerned that we face an hour of darkness and destruction because the people of God are distracted from their call.  How does this practically apply to our lives?

Let’s just consider the economic crisis: “How many Christian families are in the five million homes that are two months behind on their rent?”  We as the people of God must come to a place where our finances are a concern for the honor of God.  We must begin to apply God’s principles to our finances.  How often does the world see us as no different.  God help my family to apply His principles in every area of our lives.

As I contemplated all of this, I finished my reading in I Thessalonians 1-2.  “So that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achai. Your faith has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.” This should be our greatest concern
