A Look Back

As we begin a new year together I think it is important to look back over our last year together.  About 10 months ago I began to blog for the first time.  There have been many people over the past few years who have suggested that I get started blogging, but for some reason I did not.  However for the last 10 months I have been blessed to write 5 blogs per week.

I think it is important for me to share with you, as a way of reminder, of the why of this blog.  This blog is not about my self promotion, nor is it a social network, and it is not a substitute for your personal study of the word of God.  The purpose of this blog is stated in the name of our blog, “Continuing The Work.”  “He who began a work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ,” Philippians 1:6. Our purpose is to help the body of Christ to continue the work of sanctification.

Each day you are given a section of the word of God to read and to meditate upon.  Over the last 10 months we have gone through the entire bible once and now are working through the second time.  I want to encourage each of you to read the selected passages.  Ask God to speak to you personally.  Take notes, and spend thirty minutes each day reading and re-reading God’s word.  Pass on what you are reading.  Weekly I hear about people who have been blessed with the word because you have forwarded this blog.

Months ago, I received an email from a missionary overseas.  In this email they thanked me for the encouragement from the Word of God.  They wrote, “I was ready to give up until I read this blog.  Thank you for the reminder of why I am here.”  Praise be unto God for His work in 2010.

I also found it very enlightening to discover that the top hits on the blog were from people who were searching for the following, “Stress relief, answers for their darkness, and help for tough times.”  This past year was a year filled with opportunity to reach out to hurting people with the life-changing truth of God’s Word.

Now, we move to the present.  What will we do with 2011? Certainly we know our God is continuing His work in our lives.  The question on my mind is this, “Will we be totally surrendered to His work or will we struggle with surrender?”

This morning I read Ezekiel 14-18, John 21, and Ephesians 1.  Here is one verse from Ezekiel 18.  “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live,” 18:32. What great instruction for us as we consider 2011.

Thank you for reading this blog.  Thank you for sharing this blog with others.  Thank you for the personal encouragement and daily challenges.  But most of all, “Thanks be unto God for His choosing of an unworthy sinner to proclaim His word.”
